DESSERT DELIVERIES TO CURE LOCKDOWN BLUES

As we all know, the whole world was faced with a pandemic outbreak of COVID-19 throughout the whole 2020 and up until now in 2021. Well, Melbourne was in lockdown for a great section of the whole of 2020. There was no dining out and most of us stayed home all day. That was the time I went on an online bakery ordering spree. I was ordering tonnes of cakes and sweets for delivery every week, both because I was bored but most importantly, because I couldn’t contain my excitement and craving when it comes to trying out new places. Here is a list of some of my favorite desset deliveries during lockdown. I hope you’d enjoy them as much as I do!

Delicious and heavenly Thai-inspired baked goods in Melbourne delivered straight to your door. From fluffy buttermilk buns, choux, cake rolls, chiffon volcano cake domes, to bottled Thai milk tea, Laantaan executes them all so well.

My favorite can be no other than their famous and number one best-selling buttermilk buns, particularly the Pandan Kaya filled buns, made from fresh pandan leaves. Don’t miss out!

2. THE CHOCOLATE CHIP

Hands down to the most delicious, chunkiest cookies ever from The Chocolate Chip. If you love a New York inspired huge chunky cookie with an oozy filling, then you’re missing out if you’ve never had The Chocolate Chip cookies. Look at the perfect layers in this PB and Jam Cookie! Like a sandwich inside a cookie! So hard to pick a favorite since all were amazing! Also absolutely loved both the PB Brownie and the Cinnamon Scroll (who would imagine a scroll INSIDE a cookie?!), you can’t go wrong with these flavors. And super excited to try Fruit Cake and Pumpkin Pie cookies for the first time. Wasn’t disappointed at all.

3. FELLOW MART

Fellow mart is one of my go-to late night snacks to munch on. Order easily through their website with delivery available every Sunday. If you love chewy, crispy dough, you absolutely cannot miss out on these mochi donuts. Their crispy on the outside yet chewy and soft on the inside as you chew. Definitely love all the flavors, with my favorite being matcha of course!

They also sell Bento Cake for those cake lovers out there. Ever heard of Bento Cakes before? Bento cakes, aka lunch box cakes, are mini 3-4 inch cakes that fit inside takeaway box. They are the perfect size for those of you who love to eat cake but don’t want to order too much in one go. Take your pick between matcha latte or strawberry where you can never go wrong with, or go for something more daring like durian with real durian meat. Mellowed, fresh cream layered between soft chiffon cake.

4. COOK WITH MAMA RIN

Another dessert galore from Cook with Mama Rin. Her bakeries never fail to impress. If you’re up for some delicious homemade, Thai inspired bakeries and sweets, this is the one for you! She’s got a whole range of Thai inspired bakeries—cakes and breads—for you to choose from. My favorite was definitely the Orange Sponge Cake, it’s just the same as the ones I used to eat back in Thailand. So soft and fluffy! Also loved the Taro Chiffon Cake so much, layered with fresh taro custard, fresh cream, and Thai jasmine scented egg yolk threads. There’s also an option for Taro Chiffon with fragrant Thai cendol topping. Can’t miss out on the traditional desserts like Taro Bua Loy and Kanhom Tuay either!

5. MAGDALENA MEDOVIK

Nothing beats Magdalenda Medovik’s Russian Honey Cake. First time ever to try Russian Honey Cakes! Thanks to my friends for introducing this cake and sharing it with me! Original, traditiona'l, Caramilk, or Biscoff flavored—take your pick! Was so hard to choose a favorite since all of them were amazing. Especially the Biscoff one, which smells super insane. Whichever one you pick, you won’t regret it.

6. SAM BAKING HIGH

Sam Baking High brings Korean style bread to you in Melbourne! Sam Baking High is the bakery for you if you’re looking for delicious breads or cakes, and to top it off, they are super cute! In love with their Sweet Potato Mochi Bun—it looks like an actual sweet potato too! Inside the soft and chewy dough is filled with mashed sweet potato, cheese, and mochi. How heavenly does that sound? Well, it’s even better when you actually taste it.

If you’re in the mood for cookies, make sure not to miss out on Kind Kreation’s delicious creaitons! Loved the Biscoff as well as Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip filled cookies. They are literally insane, especially when it’s soft and gooey once heated up. Sp lucky to taste the new Caramilk Biscoff. Don’t miss out while it lasts!

8. CAKE BY AYAKA

9. LITTLE MUDPOT

So excited to try the dessert box of beautiful and delicate cakes and pastries! The best part is that you get to try four different things in one box! And the size is just perfect. The Chocolate Hazelnut Choux is very special, with miso caramel, hazelnut praline, and Chantilly—definitely not something you can get at any bakery. The Cheesecake has a little gimmick with its white chocolate dome filled with passionfruit liquid—gotta crack for the surprise!

First time having a Hummingbird Cake! Loved the mix of banana, carrot, pineapple, and crunchy walnuts and cinnamon. That Vanilla Cake was also delicious! Layered with strawberry rhubarb compote and topped with a thin layer of white chocolate.

Last but not least, their Choux Box 1.0. Amazingly beautiful and delicate choux pastries with unique fillings that will impress you. Impressive, creative fillings like Musang King Durian, Masala Chai & Honey, Matcha Adzuki, and Passion fruit Meringue. If you love choux, this is a must!

Ever seen a cheesecake this cute?! Tom & Jerry Cheesecake with three different fillings to choose from. Are you team Oreo, M&M’s, or Dark Choc? Not a fan of these? Head to their page to see what other flavors are available, or create your own!

For boba lovers, there’s also Lava Boba Cakes available! Creamy and milky Thai milk tea lava cream oozes out as you cut into the cake. How dreamy is that?
